Are obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours interfering with your daily life?

Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD)

Everybody can recognise the occasional urge to go back and double-check that something is unplugged, an extra worry about contact with dangerous germs, or even an occasional alarming or violent thought. But if you suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours become so consuming that they interfere with your daily life and your sense of control. OCD is an anxiety disorder characterised by uncontrollable, unwanted thoughts and ritualised, repetitive behaviours you feel compelled to perform. If you have OCD, you likely already understand all too well that your obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours are irrational, yet despite this you feel unable to resist the urgent force of the OCD thinking and break free.

Like a machine trapped in a gear, OCD causes the brain to get stuck on a particular thought or urge, causing the sufferer to feel compelled to perform certain tasks in increasingly specific ways. You don’t derive any sense of pleasure from performing these repetitive behaviours, however these behaviours offer temporary relief for the very real anxiety generated by the obsessive thoughts.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) understands the mechanisms of this condition and offers proven compassionate solutions to help OCD sufferers to break free of unwanted thoughts and irrational urges and regain control of their thoughts and actions. So that they can devote their energies to a more fulfilling rewarding life.

I have years of experience working with OCD in its various forms and I love delivering hope and strategies to those who feel trapped and ashamed by this complicated disorder. Please contact me to learn more about how this works in therapy.
